Well, after a fairly restless sleep last night I was up and about early today. No matter how prepared I thought I was, there is always that nagging feeling that I've left something behind, haven't booked something properly or that something vital has completely slipped my mind.
A few busy hours at school then I was off to get some final bank and phone things sorted, then it was home to do the final pack, and also to make sure my Richmond cap was clean and ready to go!
Without a doubt, it will be a major point of interest wherever I go throughout England and Helsinki!!
I must confess to being a little stressed at doing all of the organising for this trip on my own, because our last two trips overseas were fully planned and booked by my wife, and all I did was ask things like "What are we doing tomorrow?", "Where are we staying?" or "Do I have to go to Les Miserables?".
I've just been dropped off at the airport, and wasn't I paranoid about not leaving anything important in the car, as we decided to do the quick drive through rather than filling the pockets of the airport parking cash cow. Also, our youngest starts Uni in Melbourne next week and is moving down tomorrow, so I didn't want Jen hanging around if she has to travel down to Melbourne again tomorrow.
Imagine my frustration when I just discover that the new lock on my new bag has decided to go on the frizz and won't open. I must have checked the combination a million times this week just to be sure, and even checked it 2 hours ago when we left home. The minute I get into the airport and there it goes. This better not be an omen for the rest of the trip!!
But as we say in our little office at school, "There are no problems, just solutions".
I might have to take back a few of the expletives I muttered to it just now, but as I don't need anything from my bag until I hit London, it can wait. I'm sure there will be a heavily armed policeman at Heathrow who won't mind shooting it off for me.
When we left Bendigo it was 26 degrees and very warm, although a bit cloudy. By the time I got here it was down to 13 degrees and raining, very bleak and a total contrast to what I had left behind.
I suppose Mother Nature is just preparing me for the weather that lies ahead.
Until my next post, which could even be tonight again, as I have a few hours to kill here before my flight.
Cheers!
