It's Nearly Holidays...

Hi Readers,

Well. I must start this post by asking what the hell is going on in the United States? No, not as a result of Trump getting a gig in the Big House, but the continued spike in page views from there.
It has been more than 200 a day, which suggests that daytime TV has died and that they are looking for something just as boring to fill the day.
Anyway, I am not complaining if extra people are reading this, the more the merrier.
I consciously do not plan what I am going to write on each post, I just open it up and start banging on!

Every so often I ask for comments, and I'm going to put a challenge out to my readers...

If you leave a comment about something to bang on about, rest assured I will be able to relate it to something I have done, seen, heard about or experienced in some way throughout the course of my 53 years.

Of course there might be a fair bit of rubbish attached to it, but I'll do all I can to make it entertaining!!

Come on readers, put me to the test!!!

This Week at School...

It has been a real up and down week. We have experienced lots of highs with the kids producing amazing results at a time of the year when things start to wind down somewhat.
Our Gr 5's had a Market Day, where they all developed stalls where other kids could come and buy things or try their luck with sporting challenges.
It was a beautiful warm and sunny day and the whole school got behind them and celebrated what they had been learning about in a practical manner.

A general shot showing just part of the Market Day. Check out that blue sky!!!

One of the many stalls totally planned by the kids.

Our resident DJ kept the mood going with some great music.

Another of the many successful stalls.

A pano shot of the Market Day.

And while this is not part of the Market Day, it shows what some Gr 2's were capable of when I took their class for a while.

This whole process involves measuring and ruling, tasks that can be very challenging for 7-8 year olds, but they were fantastic at it.

If you zoom in you will see that by drawing lots of straight lines and adjusting the angle slightly after each line, the end result is a curved effect.

This class took to it like ducks to water, we had an absolute ball doing it.

By the end of the session they were using squares, circles, triangles and rectangles and the best thing was that they were beginning to experiment with other shapes as well. Success!!!

The downside to the week was that our school community was touched by a few examples of terrible news and tragic circumstances which I won't go into.

The upside was the way that our community has galvanised and worked so hard together to support a number of people in ways that brings joy to the heart. The generosity of some people has been overwhelming, especially our Gr 5's who have donated everything they raised from their Market Day to supporting some people who are in dire need of support at the moment.

We couldn't be prouder of these kids for the way they stepped forward without any suggestions from their teachers.

We only have a few days of school left for the year and then it is a few weeks of holidays.

Rest assured readers, I'll have some really interesting posts to share during my holidays!!!

Stay tuned!

Until my next post...

Cheers!!
