Day Four of our European adventure...

We started the day with the view "Let's just walk out the door and see what happens", which was great.
Just strolling the streets of Vienna enabled us to appreciate the architecture and culture of the city, even though we nearly got wiped out every time we went to cross the road because we never knew which way to look!!

We eventually stumbled across St Stephen's Cathedral, which is unbelievable in terms of history, stories, construction and displays.
The roof has a pattern in it, all done hundreds of years ago.
I couldn't even fit it in one frame!
Preparations for Easter.
Leaving after our tour.
And freezing at the rooftop.

Walking around the city gave us many photo opportunities...

Obviously the carriage tours are a hit here.
And the deliveries are done in style!!

Part of the Vienna skyline.
This bare patch of ground was where the Gestapo had their headquarters in WW2, just in front of one of the oldest churches in Austria.
The mighty Danube River.
Photobombing the Danube.

The Austrian Parliament.

The buildings here are just amazing. What really has struck me is that the buildings look so beautiful and historical, only to see a McDonalds or clothes shop occupying the bottom floor. The whole CBD is just old building after old building, but all are occupied with any myriad of retail outlets.
It just doesn't look right.

Another plus about where we are staying is that I've been able to use the gym three times, and each time I've had it all to myself...Bliss!!💪

So what does tomorrow hold?
It looks like we might be hitting some museums, including the Holocaust Museum.
I'm trying to talk Jen into hiring a bike and riding up to the Danube again (walked today) but at the moment she's not keen on that idea.

Whatever happens, Vienna is a beautiful place, even if we are really struggling with the language barrier. It is hard to find English translations anywhere, particularly the rail network that I tried to negotiate on my own this afternoon, failing dismally. (Which is where I got the idea about hiring the bikes!!)

Looking forward to our next day, and trialling another few Austrian beers ( thank goodness for the Gym!!)
