Last night finished up with a lovely dinner together at an Italian restaurant in Clapham, and even just strolling the streets here and hearing from Sam what goes on, and what they do was interesting to say the least!
As we left the restaurant, the bubbly owner ( an Italian lady) was just so friendly to us, and realised we were not from England. She asked where we were from and why we were here, and upon leaving we got the big hugs and kisses from her. She even said to us "I'll be watching him (Sam) for you" and waving her finger at him.
It was beautiful.
We will catch up again with Sam in two weeks when we get back to London, but I'm already dreading saying goodbye to him when we leave to come home, because last night was hard enough for me as I miss him so much.
I also stuffed up my understanding of our itinerary a fair bit. Here I was thinking that we were going to Les Miserables last night, only for Jen to reassure me that we are going to it in about two weeks when we get back to London. Great!! I now get two whole weeks to look forward to it!!!
She even suggested I listen to the music on this flight, which got a very steadfast "NO".
I know this musical floats her boat, but I just can't get enthused about it yet, but I'll go along and I'm sure it will be good....I hope!!!!!!
We have no idea what to do once we hit Vienna. We do have accommodation booked, but how to get there is going to be an adventure, but we are now able to just laugh at the stuff ups we make.
Well, we are now tucked up in our digs in central Vienna. The transition from the airport could not have been easier. We walked out the door of the airport, the bus we needed was right in front of us, and it's termination point was just around the corner from our digs, which we drove past on the way in.
After a lengthy, but enjoyable check-in from Grigor ( who had good English which helped) we went up to our room and were blown away with how good it was compared to what we had in London. Our London experience was similar to Fawlty Towers in many ways, so this was a great relief.
As we have a kitchen, we decided to cook something up, which meant a trip to the supermarket which is about 50 metres away...bingo!!
Now the problems started. As everything was written in German ( we think) it was so hard to ensure that we were buying the gluten free products that Jen requires. Even buying the milk was an ordeal because we can't stand full cream, only light milk. We think we got the right one.
The highlight of the supermarket visit was trying to choose which beers to have with tea, as there were so many to choose from. I ended up just picking two random beers, and hit the jackpot with my first one. Needless to say, I'll be back there again tomorrow!!
Now the part of the evening that has shocked and worried us a little.
We just saw on the news that a plane crashed in France today. Our hearts go out to all concerned.
We are booked to fly with the same airline next week, and this has thrown us a little. We do know that there is risk in everything you do, and that plane flight is statistically safer than car travel, but there is a little bit of us that wants to alter our travel plans next week as a result.
We have openly said to each other that we shouldn't change our plans, but there is such a feeling of nervousness after today that we have been looking at alternatives. Just to get to Vienna today meant a whole day of travelling, even though it was only a 2 hour flight.
Our plan is to take a fast train from Berlin, then jump on another train to England, which in fact would give us an extra day in London.
As we are both sick to death of planes, a day on a train cruising through a few countries actually appeals to us. We are going to sleep on it and discuss it more tomorrow.
Speaking of tomorrow, the beauty is there are no plans at all (apart from me jumping into the gym in the morning - it is really well set up), and perhaps a tram ride through the city that talks about all of the tourist attractions.
And buying a few more Austrian beers...delicious!!
