Barcelona today, flying out tomorrow..

Hi Readers,

Well today was our last full day in Barcelona and the sun came out to help us make it a great one.
Just around the corner from us is a new Basilica that is being built, and won't be finished until about 2040. It feels weird seeing such a majestic building under construction when all of the great ones we have seen over the years are all hundreds of years old.
It just shows that every building has to be built at some time, either now, or in the past.

The Basilica we are hoping to visit tomorrow, if the wind stops!

So we rocked up to the Basilica half an hour before opening only to find that the towers were closed all day due to the wind that was already about. This is one of the highlights of a visit here, so we are backing on the wind dropping overnight so that we can get in for a look before we leave this wonderful city.

What happens when your morning goes down the gurgler?
You go riding the subway and head down to the foreshore and wander back home up La Rambla, THE street in Barcelona!
We just happily wandered around the docks and checked out where the cruise ships come in.
Then, when walking back over a huge bridge we could see a cargo ship being loaded with new cars and containers, and this was like watching ants work. It was such an organised activity, and so efficient.

Pirate ship tours of the docks.

Cars lined up for export, a cruise liner in port and a ship, heading out to sea.

Trucks come in and drop their trailers. These small prime movers then hook up to them and load them inside the ship. Precision driving at its best.

The next part of the morning wasn't really planned, it just happened. There are so many side streets leading off La Rambla, that we just picked a random one to explore. This particular street opened up to a large square, with lots of restaurants, so we found one and sat down to a beautiful lunch of grilled swordfish in the sun.

Winter in Barcelona, down to a t-shirt waiting for lunch. I must admit we were in a sheltered square!

It emphasised the hassle of pickpockets here when we were told by the waiter to watch our bags as he seated us outside. Luckily we did, as we noticed quite a few dodgy characters just wandering up and down the tables near us and checking everyone out.

We were also able to spot groups of girls today who were clearly up to no good in the streets. They were so easy to spot, just standing around in groups of usually 4, their eyes always looking at the bags of passers by. We found ourselves a good vantage point away from them and just watched them surveying their potential victims. Often the group of 4 would split into pairs and they'd work closely near each other. A few times during the day when we spotted groups surveying the crowd, I'd get sprung watching them and they'd move on.
Wouldn't it be ironic if we got pickpocketed while watching the pickpockets!!
Street sellers. They have ropes tied to the sheets they have their wares displayed on, ready for a quick getaway if the police come. Always on the lookout.

Got some serious steps in today, this includes my run at the end of the day. Before this we had done 16 000 steps.

A market we stumbled upon. Colour, smells, people, it had the lot. Even a group of girls who we were watching who were clearly up to no good!!

Yep. A selfie!!

A triple treat for my 'Fans of The Sock' today. Here we are on the Barcelona foreshore.

And in front of another old Cathedral, and while doing this shot we had to keep ignoring a bloke trying to sell us a selfie stick.

And where else could we get a shot but in front of one of my favourite shops!! And I bought a new pair, so watch out at school this year!!

Well Readers, tomorrow we are only in Barcelona for the morning before flying out for a new destination . We are hoping to do the Basilica first thing, just hoping there is no wind💨🌪!!

So where are we going? You should know the drill by now!!
A highlight of the next few days will be that our eldest son, Sam is flying over from London to spend a few days with us. This holiday just keeps getting better👍😊

Until my next post Readers...

Cheers!!
