Hi Readers,
Well after an interesting , but rather uneventful day yesterday, today was fairly different.
I was up fairly early again and out the door in my runners, but this time I remembered to put on my mittens, as it was -10 degrees. Tomorrow I might remember my beanie as well, because at some stages my ears hurt so much from the cold I was worried that I may have been doing damage to them!!
Nonetheless, I was able to see Budapest waking up after a weekend and seeing what it looks like here during the rush hour to get to work.
Monday and Budapest is back to work.
By jogging along the river I was finally able to get a shot of the Houses of Parliament, the one that we always see on travel Brochures advertising Budapest.
By the time I got home I was well and truly ready for the hot shower!!
Little did I know that the really cold experience for the day was yet to come!
My son Sam who is with us at the moment, and I decided to take on a Segway tour. We were both well rugged up, or so we thought, but after 40 minutes we had lost all feeling in our hands and toes, and our heads were hurting from the cold.
Thankfully we had a stop at a coffee shop mid-tour and devoured a hot chocolate, and got the feeling back in our limbs, only to venture back out and do it again for another hour! We did manage to see some great sights, and our tour guide Stephen was just great. The fact that it was just the three of us made it even more special, given that in the high season they have up to 100 in a group.
I guess it just shows that we were the only klutzes to go on a tour when it is -10 on a Monday morning!!
However, despite the cold we still had a great time, as we will forever remember this trip as the time we felt the deepest cold we have in our lives so far.
It was painful!!!
While all of this was on, Jen went shopping, which could have been a dangerous thing, but in the end Sam and I were the only shoppers as each of us bought a pair of shoes!
For the rest of the afternoon we wandered through some markets before heading back to our digs to thaw out for an hour or two before heading out again tonight.
You see, today is our wedding anniversary, 29 years and we feel so lucky to be celebrating it in such a place with one of our amazing sons.
No selfie yet Readers, so you'll just have to be entertained with a shot of us together. It is ironic that we are all rugged up in the snow, when at home today it is 38 degrees and a total fire ban!!
Not a selfie, but a photo of the two of us on our 29th wedding anniversary.
And for the sock photo, just trust me that the sock made the trip today. I was just way too cold to get my hands out, as this shot was taken during our Segway tour when Sam and I were at the stage of having no feeling in our fingers and toes!! This was taken at one of the high points overlooking Budapest.
It has been just brilliant having Sam with us for two days, and he heads back to London in the morning in a 4.00 am flight. I guess he'll be up early in the morning!!
Jen and I have tomorrow here and tomorrow night, before heading off to a new country.
Which one?
You know the drill, log in and find out!!
Until my next post Readers...
