Hi Readers
Well today was our last day in Budapest before we head off to a new country tomorrow, and I know you'd love to know which one it is, so I'll tell you...
When we get there!!
Sam had to leave early this morning (3.30 am!) to head back to work in London, and the place feels incredibly empty tonight as it is the first time we have been here on our own. It was definitely much better when he was here, but we are lucky that he is coming back to catch up with us again in another country on Friday for a day and a bit before we fly home next Monday.
Jen and I just took it easy this morning and went for a good long walk down to Heroes Square for a good look around. There is a fair bit to see around here, plus we never mind a good walk around a city.
We wanted to check out the thermal baths, but there was a fair price on it, so we reneged as we felt we'd look at it for a minute then just head off again!
A bit of a walk back was paused for a while as we found a street display dedicated to the history of the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. There was so much to learn, and so much we never knew, it was just great to read all about it, see the photos and watch some short clips.
In the afternoon we went to visit the Jewish section of the city which I was really looking forward to. The synagogue here is one of the biggest in the world, but our visit was somewhat underwhelming. I was very disappointed with it.
By now we had walked nearly 14 km so we were both ready for a rest, so Jen headed back to our digs while I kept going for a final look at the Danube and to wander the nearby streets for another hour or so.
Wherever we go in each country we see beggars and people trying to sell all kinds of crap or sign you up for something then take your money. I noticed tonight for the first time that the police were moving them on and stopping them from hassling people in the street. Some of the ones tonight were flogging off some sort of religious books, and even though I firmly said 'No' as they approached me, they would still follow, continually hassling me and trying to get me to talk.
I saw them actually place a book in the hand of one poor bloke, then they were grilling him for money as he had 'accepted' the book. He was having none of it, but they were really going him for some money.
Another one I saw was when an older bloke really hobbled across a pedestrian crossing. A lady came to help him, and when he was off the crossing he proceeded to tell her she owed him money for helping him!!
We are not sure what the weather will be like where we are going tomorrow, but we are reasonably sure it will be fairly cold. However, the cold weather hasn't really bugged us, (apart from on the Segway yesterday!!❄️) its only when it is wet that we get annoyed. Given the fact that we have only had two wet days in three weeks of a European winter, we have been incredibly lucky.
A double treat for the 'Fans of the Sock' today, I get edgy each day until I know I have my daily sock photo done!!! God only knows what Jen thinks, as she is the one who has to take the photos!š¤
Well Readers, a fairly big day of travel tomorrow, and we are beginning to see that this amazing trip is quickly coming to an end. Only 5 more nights leftš©
Until my next post Readers...
Cheers!!
